Description
Situated south-east of Gela, the marina of Scoglitti is manily used by local fishing boats. It consists of an inner breakwater with a red lantern at the top and a southern dock signaled by a lartern with green flashing lights. Moreover, it includes two smaller docks and some floating jetties located opposite the yacht club. The port offers 25 berths for boats up to 15 metres in length. Because of many sandbanks, boats with a draft greater than 1.50 metres are not allowed to enter the port. The marina is open 24 hours a day and offers a filling station, water and electric charging columns, a slipway, a mobile crane up to 30 tons, hull and engine repairs. Scoglitti, a hamlet of Vittoria, is a coastal village facing the Gulf of Gela. Its inhabitants live on fishing, agriculture and seasonal tourism. Tourist attractions include Madonna di Portosalvo's Church, the Lighthouse and the 19th-century church dedicated to St. Francis. The neighbouring archaeological site of Kamarina is one among the most important ones in Sicily. Every year, Scoglitti hosts the national beach volley and neach soccer league and the Malta-Scolgitti sailing race organized by the local sailing club. The coastline offers many white-sand beaches which stretch from the Ippari river. Between Punta Braccetto and Scoglitti raises the Randello Natural Park. It consists of a pine forest surrounded my a rich Mediterranean forest. In front of this long pine forest, there's a beach with many species of seashells. Typical products are "ciappi", sun-dried tomatoes with cheese and basil, "aulive cunsate", white pitted olives with mint, oil and garlic, dry sausage and tuma, in addition to pasta with sardinese and "maccu", a soup of beans with wild fennel. The "giuggulena" is a typical torrone with sesame seeds and honey.
