Description
Consisting of a 85-metre inner breakwater, a jetty reserved for hydrofoils and some quays, the Porto di Levante on Vulcano Island includes both the municipal port and the Marina Baia Levante. The public quay offers no yachting services. The seabed is sandy and with a minimum depth of 3 metres. Yachtsmen are required to give way to exiting boats and the maximum speed allowed in the port basin is 6 knots at least until 600 metres off the jetty. The marina consists of different floating quays equipped with water and electric charging columns. Yachtsmen can also drop the anchor near the beach of Ponente. In this case, they are recommended to pay particular attention to irregular sea bottoms and insidious shoals. The Marina Baia Levante can host both sailing and motor yachts up to 60 metres in length and with a maxium draft of 6 metres, for a total of 120 berths, all equipped with water and electricity. Before entering the marina, yachtsmen can contact the port on VHF channel 14 to receive mooring assistance. Furthermore, the port facility offers mooring lines, anchors, boat detergents and nautical equipment. The marina is open from April to October. Services include a 24h/24 tender service, mechanical assistance, electric repairs, rental inflatable boats from 5.30 to 11 metres in length, helicopter trasfers, sea taxi, car transfer from Milazzo to the airports of Palermo, Catania and Reggio Calabria, waste collection and special discounts at local hotels and restaurants.
The Porto di Levante is also the terminal from which ships and hydrofoils leave and link the island with the other Aeolian Islans, Milazzo, Messina, Reggio Calabria and Naples
