Ports and anchorages in Piedmont - the port of Stresa

Situated within the Gulf of Borromeo, with deep bottoms and a wide easily accessible entrance, the Old Port of Stresa is equipped with no safety facilities for recreational boating. Its mouth is marked by two red-and-green small towers and it is flanked by some mooring posts with rings for small boats. The area is subject to a great traffic of liner and private boats which often create insidious waves. The new facility, still under construction, will offer lots of berths and a complete range of nautical services. Some taxi-boats daily journey from Lake Maggiore to Borromeo Islands and all the other villages on the lake. It's possible to reach all the destinations equipped with public or private dock. Visitors can also enjoy special transfers for meetings and conferences.

Stresa enjoys a wonderful position in the Mottarone foothills. The numerous villas, parks, gardens, Borromeo Islands and the promenade decorated with flowers make Stresa one among the most popular and appreciated destinations on Lake Maggiore. A rich calendar of cultural events and sports competitions attracts crowds of tourists. The Musical Weeks of Stresa and Lake Maggiore are certainly an important event in the context of classic music European festivals which gathers internationally renowned artists every year. Moreover, Stresa is the starting point for interesting excursions.

The territory is partially coastal, partially insular, hilly and mountainous. The coast, facing Lake Maggiore, includes the historic centre of Stresa and the hamlet of Carciano, while the insular part embraces three of the four Borromeo Islands. Stresa is linked to skiing facilities  and the botanical garden by a cable car divided into two different sections: the first leads from Stresa to Giardino Alpinia while the second one goes from Giardino Alpinia to Mottarone, where skiing facilities are based.

The promenade hosts many hotels, restaurants, villas and public beaches. Lido di Carciano, Villa Pallavicino and Spiaggia Regina-Lido Blu are equipped beaches.
