Description
In 1905 a group of young people from the local bourgeoisie created the Cartagena regatta club, installed two wooden huts on the Batel beach and acquired several boats. Shortly thereafter, in 1907 coinciding with the visit of Cartagena del Rey Alfonso XIII, they built the new house on the pier and got the monarch accepted the honorary presidency of the club, be allowed to use the royal crown on their distinctive and official document . In August of the same year the first regatta was organized with sails and rowing boats and in mid-1910 the construction of a new and elegant building was started which was inaugurated on 14, 1912. Since then the Real Club de Regata of Cartagena continued its journey, with very bright stages becoming a social and sporting reference. In 1985, due to the bad state of the building structure, its ruin was declared and soon closed, moving the Club to a new location next to the Marina and equipped with modern facilities.
