San Fruttuoso 

San Fruttuoso is a small bay located between Camogli and Portofino, in the province of Genoa. Plunged in the regional natural park of Portofino, the village can be reached only by foot or by sea.

The natural park also includes a protected marine reserve and, before entering the marina, you have to take a look at the ordinance n.94/98 issued by the Port Authority of S. Margherita Ligure.

The village is famous for its namesake Abbey (1000) located just opposite the beach, the Dorian Tower, a church and some picturesque fishing houses plunged in the green and rich vegetation.

The abbey is a well-known place of worship and the bay hosts the famous Christ from the Deep, a bronze statue (almost 2.5 m high) placed at 15 metres deep on the seabottom in 1954 by the Italian Navy. Many scuba divers love diving to admire the statue but they can do that only if accompanied since the area is a protected one. Not far from the beach, there's the wreck of a British steamship sunk in 1855.

The marine environment is very heterogeneous, with a plurality of micro habitats inhabitated by several animal and vegetal species. The very deep seabottoms are rich of corals, poseidonia, rare animal and vegetal species. This is why San Fruttuoso is a paradise for scuba divers from all around the world, who can admire the red coral, the black one and over 150 species of sponges.

The anchor post of San Fruttuoso includes some quays reserved for tourist ferries but you can moor in the large well-sheltered anchorage with no problem, expect from paying attention to some rocks and the low bottom.

The free beach is very crowded and continuously reached by boats, ribs and kayaks coming from Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure, Camogli and Genoa.

The marine reserve is divided into different zones, some of which are completely forbidden to sailing and bathing, while others have some restrictions. Some points are free, while in others it is not allowed to drop the anchor.
