Description

A very sheltered mushroom natural bay offering at least three different mooring possibilities: this is enough to undestand why Porto Heli, also known as Kheli or Cheli, is very crowded and appreciated in summer.

Located in the southern coast of Argolide, Porto Heli is easily reachable both from sea and land. It's, in fact, the starting and arrival point of many ferries carrying tourists to visit the most popular islands of Saronic Gulf and, in summer, yachtsmen from all around the world love to reach it.

Porto Heli is a picturesque fishing village, characterized by the some traditional buildings and the presence of the famous Hapimag residence. Hence, the village offers a plurarity of attractions: pubs, restaurants, typical taverns, live music at night and souvenir shops.

The bay of Porto Heli raises just on the extreme south-eastern edge of the Peloponnese, almost in front of Spetses Island (which is, in fact, well-linked by tourist ferries).

The entrance of the bay presents no dangers; only if you come from East, you must pay attention to some dangerous rocks raising near the coast.

Once you've entered the bay, you have to keep your right and not exceed the speed limit of 5 knots.

The seabottom is muddy and might cause some problems when dropping the anchor even if it's a good holding ground.

After entering the bay, you can choose one of the well-sheltered coves surrounding the entrance channel to spend a night here.

The large bay in front of the village is 3-6 m deep and anchorage here is very simple. However, in summer, it can be very crowded.

There are many floating piers but you have to ask for information abour their management and availability. The best option is to moor along the long cement quay; boats can have a stern mooring here while many areas are reseverd for fishing boats and tourist ferries.

As an alternative, you can use one of the many mooring ropes or buoys available on the northern side of the bay. In this case, please contact Franks Yachtstation, a small yard working in the bay:+030 27540 52380.

Since the bay doesn't offer a real marina, the services provided are really essential; just some water and electricity. However, a gas station can be reached by tender or you can ask to have some fuel on the quay. A public slipway complete the offer of the structure.

As already said, Porto Heli is a very popular tourist destination, so you can easily find here some supermarkets, restaurants, pizzerias, pubs, a bank and even a well-equipped chandler's shop, a bike, moto and car rental point, a self-service laundry and an internet café.

The already mentioned Franks Yachtstation offers spare sparts and small repairs.

If the bay of Porto Heli is too crowded, you can reach the small island of Kinitsa, located south-east of the entrance of Porto Heli. It offers many anchorage possibilities and a good shelter. Depth in the passage between the island and the mainland is, on the contrary, very low.
