Karave 

Gavdos is the southernmost island of Greece and the southermost point of Europe. Located 26 miles south of Crete, Gavdos could be a good idea to visit "Far South".

10 km long and 5 km wide, the island hasn't many touristic attractions. Far from the mass tourism, it offers in fact a great opportunity to relax and enjoy the traditional Greek landscapes, colours and tastes.

Gavdos hosts about a hundred inhabitants but in winter they don't reach 50. In summer, on the contrary, tourists make population increase up to 3000 people. Nevertheless, the island remains rather quiet. The only café open all the year is located in Karave, the seat of the only port of the island. It's a ferries port but with some mooring places for transiting yachtsmen.

The port is located on the north-eastern edge of the island and it's a very basic structure composed by a dock and a small quay. However, boats can moor laterally in the inner part of the breakwater, where depth is about 4 m.

The small port is well-sheltered from all winds, except for eastern ones. Getting Gavods and entering the port is quite easy.

As regards services, you can find just some water and electricity on the quay, together with few toilets. You can find many stray cats and dogs, too, but they don't threat safety. There is no gas station.

A small supermarket completes the basic offer of the port.
