Description

Situated on the North Sea Coast about 30 miles north of Aberdeen, Peterhead is a major fishing port and the traditional commercial and shopping centre for Buchan’s agriculture and fishing families and workers. With recently implemented fishing restraints and the slow down in the North Sea oil industry the future of the harbour looked in the balance. That was until the innate resilience and adaptability of the local population kicked in and Peterhead Bay Marina was created. A purpose built leisure facility offering nearly a mile of alongside moorings and a comprehensive range of marine services, the marina is widely regarded as being one of the best-equipped leisure harbours in East Scotland.

Famous for its red granite architecture, Peterhead town centre is dominated by the 18th century Town House. A vibrant hub for shopping and socialising it has become a magnet for day-trippers and people wanting a short break. Indulge yourself in a hefty session of retail therapy then wind down or recharge in one of the many fine fish restaurants or cosy pubs. If the sun is shining head to the award winning Lido Beach or play 18 holes on the 18th oldest golf club in the world. Attractions include the Peterhead Maritime Museum and the 400-year old Ugie Salmon Fish House where you can actually see the fish being smoked using traditional methods.

Peterhead has certainly moved with the times and by doing so has developed into a 21st century town with its traditional heart worn clearly on its sleeve. Warm, hospitable and always entertaining it is undoubtedly the local spirit that makes a visit to Peterhead so worthwhile.
