Description

The Marina of Novalja offers 100 seats for boats of 20 m maximum length and 5 m maximum draft. At the port wharf, every night a hydrofoil stays up until the next day. On the sides of the dock are usually fishing boats. During the summer season, buoys are installed for pleasure boats in the area between the crane and the fuel distributor. The mooring operations and departure from the filling station can be difficult for small space, especially with the sea breeze.

Novalja is located to the northwest of the island of Pag towards the open sea and overlooks Mali Lošinj, Silba and Olib. Novalja has its roots in Roman times, when it was a safe harbor of the eastern Adriatic. Of particular archaeological importance in Novalja are the area of Caska, a Roman colony destroyed by an earthquake in the fourth century. The ancient underground aqueduct of the first century excavated in the hard stone, about 1 km long and 40 m of height, with entrance from the Civic Museum and the bay of Vlaška Mala, where a sank  Roman merchant shipwrecked full  amphorae, was found. The archaeological site is currently protected by a metal cage accessible only to the researchers, but it is still accessible by the divers. Those who could not dive can still take advantage of the extensive photographic documentation at the Civic Museum.

Today Novalja is a lively seaside resort with numerous restaurants, bars and ice cream shops and a promenade at night comes alive with music and street markets well into the night. In its vicinity are numerous beaches such as Straško, Babe, Trincel and Branicevica.

The most important and famous is the Zrce beach, located on the western side of Pag bay, with its gravel beach and crystal clear seawater. On this beach are concentrated the most frequented nightclubs of the island and in the summer months host the biggest names of entertainment disco and electronic music.

Among the initiatives to be remembered is "Novalja Cultural Summer", which is organizing sports events, art exhibitions, concerts, theatrical performances as well as outdoor film projections. Inside the event, themed evenings are held in which traditional music accompanies the tasting of local products, from pancakes, to almond, bread with dried figs.
