Description

The port of Marina Punat is the oldest in Croatia, built in 1964 for, legend says, mooring three - number three - boats. It is open all year round. The port of Marina Punat is located in the south-eastern part of one of the major islands of the Adriatic Sea, the KrK island, which stands out on the north coast of Dalmatia, in the Kvarner bay; a renowned and crowded yachting port town in the Adriatic Sea. The marina is located right next to the town of Punat, in a bay that is naturally protected by wind and marshes, with a small opening to the sea, thus guaranteeing a natural protection for yachts and moored boats.

The entrance to the Kvarner Bay is facing south while the port of Marina Punat extends along the eastern shore of the bay, right beside the entrance point of the bay. 11 piers perpendicular to the beach make up the Punat Marina, which, due to the calm nature of its waters and winds, is devoid of breakwater barriers. While on one hand nature has grabbed Marina Punat, on the other it has disadvantaged it with shallow water. In fact, to enter the bay where the marina is located, the skipper of the boat must sail through a narrow canal, only 3 meters deep that becomes ever lower as it approaches the mainland but it is still well marked by flashing lights on both sides.

For what concern the moorings in addition to those at sea, Marina Punat can accommodate 500 dry boat berths for boats up to 15 m in length. The 11 jetties in the water are connected to water supplies, electricity and Wi-Fi internet connection and a special facility is equipped for winter repairs and storage.

Marina Punat has won several awards and has been recognized many times by the best port of Croatia, winning for three consecutive years 2008, 2009, 2010, the best Marina of Croatia award. Next to the marina there is the Punat yard, both the companies that operate the harbor and the yard, are among the main members of the Marina Punat group.

What can Marina Punat offers to a tourist who stop there? The island of Krk has a rich vegetation, especially in the hinterland, while the shores are marked by small fishermen and peasants villages that retain the charm of ancient rural communities.  For sure, Marina Punat can be an ideal starting point for sailing between the Kvarneric islands and Kornati islands, discovering the beauty of the Kvarner bay, among the main Croatian Riviera. Staying in Marina Punat is not a problem, Krk and nearby Cres offer numerous villages and resorts, while for those who want to travel inland, tourist destinations such as Pula or Zara can be reached by car or by air from the nearby Rijeka airport.
