Description

The  Galdana Bay  (also known as Cala Santa Galdana) is located along the southwest coast of the island of Minorca. It is part of the municipality of Ferrieres and is located not far from Cala Macarella and Cala Mitjaneta.

It is a large bay, lined with high cliffs and embedded in an urban setting, made up of tourist and residential buildings. The pine forests surround it and mix up with the urban agglomeration. This stretch of coast sees the seafront of two streams - the Algendar and the Algendarette, which have created just behind the cove, a marshy environment with its typical fauna ecosystem (falcons, frogs, and bats).

The entrance of the cave is about 300 meters wide and the backdrops composed by sand and algae are solid to anchor, (in the westernmost area). The bay is open to the southwest, and is therefore affected primarily by the winds of this direction.  The anchor has a draft of about five meters and the best part of the bay to moor is that located to the south. On weak wind days, Cala Galdana can be an excellent berth where you can spend the night.

The beach of Galdana Bay lies in the inner and eastern part of the bay. It is a large white and fine sand beach, one of the best known on the island of Menorca. It is very popular with locals’ people and tourists during the summer. The waters are clear and always quiet enough; the slope is sweet and degrades slowly.

The beach costumers may have toilet facilities and showers plus various bathing establishments where they can rent beach umbrellas and deck chairs. There are also a rescue center and a restaurant. The beach is accessible to people with physical disabilities.

Within a kilometer from Cala Galdana you can find some business activities as hotels and a car rental agency.

The Galdana bay is located about seven kilometers from the center of Ferrieres
