Description

The anchorage of Capo Malfatano is situated in one among the most beautiful and picturesque zones of southern Sardinia, in the municipality of Teulada, in the province of Cagliari. In this part of the island, the coastline is very crinkled and changeable, rich of rocky promontories and wonderful white-sand bays.

The territory of Teulada includes some well-sheltered bays, like Capo Malfatano, named after the namesake promontory. The latter is overlooked by an ancient Spanish tower, from which visitors can enjoy a breath-taking panorama, and forms a sort of marine basin with a long white-sand beach and amber-coloured pebbles.

The anchorage inestled in these rocks is extraordinarily beautiful, with a warm crystal-blue sea. The seabed consists of sand, pebbles and posidonia. The bay is easily accessible by boat but boaters are recommend to keep a certain distance from the shore since sea bottoms are very low.

On the background of this wonderful fjord there are some archaeological remains and the pristine sea makes it a real paradise for snorkeling enthusiasts. Not far from the beach raises Tueredda Island, from which the visitor can enjoy an amazing view on the stacks of Capo Spartivento.

The beach of Capo Malfatano is part of a very old bay, dating back to the 6th century B.C. and once the seat of an ancient Punic harbour whose remains are still visible on the sea bottoms.

The western side of the bay hosts the coves of Punta Tonnara, easily reachable by foot through a narrow dirt road. The anchorage is very sheltered by winds and sea is almost always flat there; a small bridge allows to cross the cove and also offers a haulage opportunity for small boats.

The western shore of the beach is occupied by a coffee bar-restaurant which offers excellent specialities with fresh fish. Capo Malfatano is also famous because it often hosts inetrnational fishing competitions and championships and because of the generous presence of big groupers.

The anchorage is one among the most beautiful ones in Sardinia, particular appreciated by yachtsmen. The beach raises in the middle between the two popular beaches of Tuerredda and Piscinnì and it is very crowded in summer, also because it is reachable by foot through a narrow challenging dirt track.
