Description

The anchorage of Bonassola raises inside a gulf located just opposite the town of Bonassola, halfway between Levanto and Deiva Marina, in the province of Genoa. The rada presents neither docks nor piers but it offers a slipway and a garaging area which can receive up to 60 boats with a maximum length of 6 m.

The town offers many services, such as drinkable water, well-equipped hotels, garages and shops, in addition to a beautiful beach which is usually very crowded by tourists in summer.

The anchorage is well-appreciated by both yachtsmen (since it is well-sheltered) and scuba divers, who can explore, not far from the beach, the wreck of a ship sunk during the Second World War. We recommend to be careful since the area is really very crowded by bathers, scuba divers, swimmers and yachtsmen.

The anchorage is accessible at any moment. If you prefer, you can easily reach other two safe anchor posts, those of Porto Venere and Sestri Levante, respectively south and north of Bonassola.

Bonassola offers many possibilities of entertainment both along the coast and in the hinterland. It is surrounded by many natural and cycle paths and a wonderful crystal sea. Bonassola extends over an area of 5 km and the first human settlements here date back to 1269, when the local church of St. Georges from Reggimonti was built.

On June 29th 1943, the steamship Bolzaneto was torpedoed and its wreck can be found at a 55-metre-depth inside the anchor post. It is continuously visited by groups of scuba divers coming from all regions of Italy.

Bonassola is part of the National Park of Cinque Terre and the local tourist office organises many events during the year. For example, from May 30th to June 2nd, there's the festival dedicated to the Virgin of the Point, whose church is located on the western shore of the gulf, on a promontory at the edge of a cliff. The church can be reached only by land.

The gulf of Bonassola is subject to frequent coastal storms and, in case of strong mistral, entering the anchorage is impossible.
