Sharing the passion for the sea, visiting new places with a local expert, making new friends. These are only some of the many possibilities offered by “BoatSwapping”, the innovative platform entirely devoted to yachting.
Boatandboats.com has met Fabrizio, one of the first users of this innovative system that should not be confused with certain widespread carpooling platforms like BlaBlaCar , whose primary goal is just to offer low cost means of transport.
In addition to a large number of boats available, Boat Swapping indeed offers the local navigation experience of the boat owner involved in the exchange. Moreover, as we will see, users can enjoy the opportunity to make new friends and share their passion for the sea.
Fabrizio’s experience lasted a week, from June 25th to July 1st. His destination was one among the most beautiful Italy’s regions: Campania.
His meeting with Savino – or better, Nello, as his friends call him – took place in Salerno and the boat used for his holiday was a Beneteau Ocenis 41 Clipper.
The two users immediately embarked on a sincere friendship and, on the first night, Fabrizio and his crew were even invited by Nello at a birthday’s party. On that occasion, the group of friends was joined by two new members: a couple of musicians who, on the following day, took part to the cruise to Cetara, where a nice restaurant delighted the crew with excellent local marinated anchovies.
Sailed off to Positano without the newcomers, the tourists guided by Nello visited the city, enjoying shopping, fresh fish and folk music. In a word, the right atmosphere to live a perfect holiday in Campania.
Even more inspiring was the visit to Capri Island on the following day. Fabrizio had a pleasant walk in the centre of Procida after docking at La Corricella. The small fishing village embracing the port is a must-see for cinema lovers since it has often been chosen as a filming location over the years. Then, of course, the inevitable “grattata di limone“, a typical crushed-ice drink prepared with traditional methods.
The culinary aspect was not missed on June 28th, when the crew tasted the so-called “lingue dolci” in Procida. In the afternoon, despite harsh weather conditions, Fabrizio reached the port of Ischia and the beautiful beach of Sant’Angelo.
The following destination was Capri again: too special to be visited in only one day! The ski lift leading to the highest point of the island enabled the tourists to enjoy a breath-taking view of the gulf and the city of Naples.
The final leg of the trip was Amalfi, the historic Marine Republic of Campania.
A bath in Vietri al Mare concluded Fabrizio’s holiday. In a few days, our friend had a complete tour of coastal Campania, by optimizing times thanks to Nello’s experience.
The whole week reflected the philosophy promoted by Boat Swapping: a boat holiday experienced together with a person who knows the places to see and therefore becomes a guide from whom travellers can quickly learn about the secrets of the zone.
A characterizing ingredient of the experience is that boat exchanges are totally free. Owners, in fact, agree to return the visit and let roles reverse. Fabrizio, in fact, is going to host Nello in Rimini for a cruise to Croatia.
Maybe, that’s the real innovation of the platform: to let everyone realize how yachting is an occasion to share a passion.
